Skritter Japanese App Reviews

Worth every penny (yen)!

Ive found the app very easy to use and great for memorizing kanji through writing practice. The normal skritter website is great enough but the app has all the usefulness plus ease and convenience!

Best handwriting recognition

Ive used many kanji apps and this one has by far the best handwriting recognition. I dont like it correcting my strokes before the character is done, but theres an option to disable that; look for Raw Squigs in the settings.

Gameplay incentive speeds learning kanji

Ive got plenty of kanji books from Tuttle, Kodansha, et cetera -the best sellers, the most highly recommended- and Ive got apps for learning kanji, some geared toward taking the four levels of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). Skritter is better than any of these. For learning kanji, its the best. Skritter isnt a tool for learning grammar, conversation, or vocabulary building. It wont help you learn how to conjugate verbs or understand various readings of kanji. What it does and does very well is help you learn the strokes of kanji and learning to recognize kanji. Considering that some Japanese people claim to be forgetting how to write kanji, now that we live in an age of email and SMS, I wonder whats next for Skritter. I think the kana keyboard on iDevices is a great way to practice readings of kanji as well as okurigana. Study in kana and kanji! Romaji is a waste of your time.

Almost

This is a great app, And I love that I can practice offline. Big applause to the developers. One thing, it would be far more better if example sentences can be seen like on the website.

Awesome

It has helped improve my vocabulary so much. And being able to read and write is a skill you take for granted but it makes life so much easier.

Update the icon!

The icon is an eyesore on iOS 7, Im sure its not hard to fix.

Nothing better for learning to write kanji

Skitter is a special tool focused on writing kanji. Nothing else comes close. It continues to be updated and expanded by driven developers.

Too buggy

The app idea is very good, but the implementation is too poor. Bad design, confusing interface, and unstable. I think it need a LOT of work to be called even a beta product.

Great!

This app is a great companion to original web version of Skritter. It makes studying available almost everywhere (synchronization works fine). Its visual side is IMHO even better than that of web app ;-)

Quick method to learn kanji

Scritter is the best way to learn japanese kanji. The app help getting over the fear of kanji being hard. After 1st week of diligent learning learning become even more pleasant. I got a bit addicted to the app, but prefer this as great replacement for gaming, in the end some kanji will stick to the brain and make learning japanese easier. Scritter motivates to regular work and by doing so memory improves and process of aquisition new kanjis become shorter/faster. Great application, i recomend it !!

The best applications to learn Kanji. Thank you! =)

Very nice

Good app, but its too expensive. As a student I cannot afford the subscription T_T and use app monthly every 3-4 month.

Awesome

There are lots of similar apps, but that one has the best interface and all the essential features for that kind of an app. The only thing thats lacking for me is the ability to use Skritters database as a dictionary.

Too greedy

Pros: Nice looking. Really, really nice. Cons: Severe usability problems, lots of weird counteruntuitive interactions. Probably I could get used to, but outrageous pricing policy makes me to delete it. Sorry guys, such greed simply does not pay.

Too expensive

The best dictionaries ever cost not more than $10 -20 one time. But this program requires too much money for too small periods of time. Its a pity.

Best there is.

This app is great and I have learned so much so quickly. Havent touched any other kanji apps since starting skitter- (other than imiwa? of course.)

Good stuff

Skitter is one of the best apps for learning kanji - its a little pricey but it is incredibly useful! Hoping the app will have single list study soon - otherwise good!

Best resource to learn Japanese vocabulary and kanji if you work for a living!

This app is amazingly convenient. It syncs whenever you have a signal but keeps a store of review words and kanji to practice when you dont have signal and are offline. This means you can use this app anytime and anywhere. The handwriting recognition is excellent and the app speaks each word to you out loud (without having to press anything!) so that you get speaking/listening practice along with reading/writing practice. If you use this app on your walk to/from work and while waiting on line for breakfast and lunch and maybe a little during your commute, you have already studied close to one hour of Japanese that day and you are not even home yet! This app allows you to study while not having to sacrifice personal time when you get home at night. A+.

The best!

Awesome and extremely functional. This app will definitely boost your kanji knowledge.

Love it yet annoyed

Rtk still feels a bit Beta. I love this app but find mistakes daily.
